Indian Breath Freshener Print E-mail

Image Question:
I've heard that Indians use spices to freshen their breath. Is that true and which spices do they use?

Answer:
Yes, its absolutely true. If you think about it, mint is an herb and its used in commercial breath fresheners. A subtler ingredient is green cardamom. Many Indians chew on one of the pods complete with the outer casing and your breath does smell sweet afterwards. Its worked for me. You dont have to eat the cardamom. Ive also sucked on a clove but do go easy on those little pungent buds. Cloves tend to have a numbing quality which is why the mouthwashes dentists use contain them.
