Image Question:
Do I have to clean my rice and pulses before cooking them?

Answer:
Most supermarkets clean their rice and pulses before packing. However, it doesn't do any harm to wash rice under a cold tap a couple of times or to pick out the odd bit of grit or stone from pulses before cooking.
Many Indian cookbooks cater for the Asian market where the climate and the commercial packing processes make it essential for the consumer to clean the rice and pulses before hand.
